In an effort to keep you updated, CCAR has confirmed with both the Georgetown County Register of Deeds and the Horry County Register of Deeds critical information regarding county office closures. Please read the below information as it pertains to your title searches and closings moving forward. All information provided is subject to change by county officials.
Georgetown County will announce later today that all county offices will be closing indefinitely to the public, beginning tomorrow.
Georgetown County does not have the capability to e-file.
Starting tomorrow, the Register of Deeds will be open for appointments only. Paralegals ONLY may call the office to make an appointment on a first come-first serve basis.
Due to the CDC guidelines of remaining 6 feet apart, only 3 people are allowed in the office at one time.
The staff will remain for as long as possible to allow for the completion of recordings and title work. However, please anticipate that these services will also end at an unknown date as the pandemic progresses.
All Horry County Government offices will be closed to the public until further notice beginning Wednesday in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Please e-file all documents. While mail and hand-delivered documents will continue to be accepted, e-file will receive priority.
The 4 public rooms: reading, computers, deeds and liens are subject to close at any time. Once the door is locked, you will not have access to the necessary documents to close unless you have remote access to the digital library.
The digital library has images of deeds dating back to 1980 and mortgages back to 1996.
To access the digital library, you must have an escrow account.
Escrow accounts can only be set-up in person. If you do not have an escrow account, plan to visit the Register of Deeds office and set one up ASAP. The initial cost is $25. They only accept cash or checks.
Once you have access to the digital library, you can print and access documents remotely from any location.
Please proceed with making all necessary business arrangements in light of this new information. CCAR recognizes the challenge of navigating through these difficult times, and is at the ready to provide our members the most current and relevant updates.
