Loris is a small town in Horry County with a population of 2,396. The first settlements in Loris date back to the early 1900s centered around mills, gins, or turpentine stills. Between 1960 and 1980 the population of the town grew by almost 29%. The annual Loris Bog-off is held on the third weekend in October, in the downtown Loris area (chicken bog is a dish of chicken, rice, sausage and spices). The Loris Bog-off features carnival-type rides, concessions, regional performers, and petting zoo animals.
