Earlier this year, FEMA released preliminary flood maps that affect areas in Horry County and Georgetown County. While some areas remain unchanged, many areas have changed significantly that may require significant changes to homeowners in affected areas. These changes can include the requirement of flood insurance of a property that didn’t have that requirement before, and/or new requirements in a home’s base flood elevation. As approximately 18,000 properties are affected, we recommend that REALTORS® and members of the community that have concerns reach out to Building, Planning, and Code Enforcement leaders in local government, or county government.
