The Housing Industry in South Carolina actively supports 278,745 jobs and provides $12.7 billion in labor income for residents. The industry represents roughly 17% of South Carolina’s total economy. While impact is statewide, 56% of the total economic benefit is concentrated in five counties: Charleston, Greenville, Horry, Richland, and Beaufort.
Despite an 18.3% increase in housing inventory since 2010, a "decade of underbuilding" following the Great Recession has led to an ongoing housing shortage.
